Wow, Ruth. This is a wealth of information! Thank you so much for pulling this together. I now can see the importance of taking honors classes if you want to get into the UC system.

Thank you so much. Keep in mind that these are just “stats” and the UC system does take into account some students with “special” skills or those that achieved a 3.5 and an average SAT but overall is someone that they want at the university. My own son, graduated 2005 with a 3.65 decent SAT and ACT - and got into Berkeley. WE WERE SHOCKED. It was clear to us that there was a holistic look at the application as well as the numbers. Ruth, this gives me hope for #3 son who is a junior. THANK YOU SO THIS GREAT BLOG!!!

Thanks for the post! Something else that should be taken into consideration is the SAT II subject tests. Applicants to UC schools will have to take two of them.
A-G courses are important and planning correctly for their senior year is important as well. “Senioritis” creeps up around their peers and even if they do get accepted in the school, they’ll have to maintain a good GPA.
My little sister is aiming for UCSD (where I graduated) and I’ve learned more about the application process than I care to know. lol.
Cool blog!
